Since the most ancient cultures, dreams have always deserved special attention. The Babylonians, for example, considered that good dreams were sent by gods and nightmares by demons. So they prayed to the goddess of dreams, called Manu, that she would always send good dreams.
The Assyrians, on the other hand, believed that dreams were omens of what was to come. According to this culture, if a man dreamed several times that he was flying, he would end up losing all his possessions.
For the Egyptians, dreams were a way for the gods to communicate with humans, to ask for something or make revelations. The Greeks also believed that dreams were sacred and therefore performed purification rituals before bed.
Dreams were still present in the religions of the Romans and Hebrews. In the Bible, there are several examples where God speaks to humans through dreams.
In the United States, in the 19th century, a great nation of Indians was saved from an attack by white men thanks to the dreams of their leader, known as the Sitting Bull. The American army planned a surprise attack on the camp where the Indian families lived. However, a few days before the assault, Sitting Bull dreamed of a rain of white men falling on the grass and decided to secretly gather the tribe's warriors. Thanks to that, the entire camp was saved! Coincidence?!
