The contestation of a candidacy happens when there are irregularities related to the candidate who is running for election, whether at the municipal, state or federal level. The challenge request can be made by candidates, coalitions, political parties and by the Electoral Public Ministry.
This process is requested from the Superior Electoral Court, which will verify whether there were actions that made the candidate ineligible. If the candidate under investigation is found guilty but has been elected, his diploma may be revoked and a new election may be made.
