This municipality is located in Serra da Mantiqueira, close to Pico dos Marins and on the border with the state of São Paulo.
Its landscape is marked by exuberant and well-preserved nature, waterfalls, valleys and peaks, enchanting observers who pass by. The region is also favorable for ecological walks.
Marmelópolis had the origin of its name, due to the large production of quince in the region. The cultivation of this fruit began in 1914 with the first seedlings coming from Persia and, with the favorable soil and climate, the plant adapted easily.
In 1935, the first quince dough factory for the production of sweets began to be installed. In the 60s, Marmelópolis was responsible for 30% of the total production in Minas Gerais, which led to the elevation of the village to a municipality.
In the 1980s, fruit production had drastically decreased, due to the lack of government support and, consequently, the non-renewal of quince trees. From this glorious time, the Festa do Quince is preserved, which takes place annually in the month of September.
In this event, it is possible to enjoy the gastronomy based on fruit, a lot of history and joy.
