New RG: Who can and how much does it cost to get the new documentation?

The new identity document should already begin to expand its use throughout the country. Officially named the Unified National Identification Card, such registration uses only the Individual Taxpayer Registration (CPF) number as individual identification. The issuance of the new RG will be free of charge and the bodies responsible for issuing it will have until March 6, 2023 to adapt to the changes. Keep reading and find out who can already get the new RG.

The new document has a different format than the current one

In its new term, the new RG will be valid for up to ten years. However, the current documentation for Brazilians aged up to 60 will still work after the full implementation of the new card. As for citizens over 60 years old, the old RG will remain valid indefinitely.

In addition, the Federal Government also informed that the new national identity card will also become a travel document, due to the international standardization of the new design.

However, the main change aims to promote greater individual safety. This is because the new RG will allow the electronic validation of its authenticity via QR Code, even without the need to use the internet or mobile data.

But, after all, who can already get the new RG?

The new documentation will continue to be issued by state agencies, such as public security departments, however, it will have the same standard and print format. Thus, when they receive the request, the state civil registry agencies will validate the identification through the federal government platform, Gov.br. In addition to physical identity, citizens will also be able to access the new RG digitally.

“Gradually, we will no longer have an identity card for each state. There are 26 states and the Federal District, each with its portfolio. This is going to end. There will be a unique identification of the citizen”, informed the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Luiz Eduardo Ramos,.

As much as the document came into force in March of this year, its obligation will only be charged from March 6, 2023. I mean, next year.

Therefore, to get the new RG, just go to an identification institute with your birth or marriage certificate and follow the steps indicated by a public agent. In addition, anyone can apply for the document at no cost.
