Do you know the story of Ale and Rhoda Toth? The couple invested their last $24 in a lottery ticket, and as unlucky as they might seem, their last investment in a ticket reverted to $13 million in the 1990s. However, the couple regret having hit the jackpot.
Both of their lives changed overnight. Upon winning the winning ticket in Florida, they chose to receive their fortune in small installments of US$666,666 from 1990 to 2010. At the time, Alex said it was a lot of money to receive right away and that he felt pressured to have all the money in hand.

Certainly, Alex did not count on the upheaval that life would take, the result of bad choices.
The couple lived on luxurious trips, flew by private jet, distributed gifts to the whole family and even had contact with the former president of the United States Donald Trump and the presenter Oprah Winfrey. The money was spent on three-month trips to Las Vegas and they even paid $1,000 a night in hotels.
When they returned from their trip, they made a big investment in Florida. Even though they earned a lot of money, the couple did not want to invest in an accountant and, therefore, did not know how to deal with US taxes. Installment payments were being deposited year after year, but taxes were withheld in court.
Ten years passed and the dream turned into a sad nightmare, as they declared bankruptcy in 2001. The error started to happen when they didn't hire an accountant to take care of the taxes, because they were accused of tax fraud in 2006, accumulating a debt of US$ 2.5 million in taxes owed in the USA.
In the same year they were accused of fraud, the couple lived in unfavorable conditions, living in a residence that had electricity connected to the car's engine. In 2007, they separated and Alex was diagnosed with mental problems, as stated by The Columbus Dispatch.
In 2008, Alex suffered a heart attack and passed away at the age of 60, broke and living on welfare. The death of the former lucky man happened before the final judgment of the case. In the same year, Rhoda was charged with tax fraud and sentenced to two years in prison.
