Students who are one step away from entering the university were surprised to learn that USP abandoned the SISU, which is the selection program linked to the Federal Government. According to the announcement, the change should already be valid for the first selection of 2023, but it is not yet known what the new selection method for USP will be.

According to the University of São Paulo, the main reason for abandoning the Federal Government's selection method is the delay in the admission of students to the university. This is because students approved by the University Foundation for the Vestibular, Fuvest, enter the course a little earlier than those at SISU.
As a result, those entering the University of São Paulo through SISU have to deal with a relative delay and classes already in progress. With this change, both selection results will come out simultaneously and students will be able to start classes, all on the same day.
With the changes, students who enter through Enem will also be enrolled and selected by Fuvest, according to the USP calendar. Therefore, there will be no change in the weight of the grades for the students and the benefit of greater agility in the selection processes is guaranteed. According to the dean of USP, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti, there will also be greater coverage.
In addition to the change in the selection model, the University of São Paulo should also set up a new system of heteroidentification, which is responsible for analyzing the self-declaration of students who opt for quotas racial. In this case, it is expected that a new system will be created, but there are still no details on what would change.
For 2023, USP offers a total of 11,147 vacancies for undergraduate courses, with the majority, 8,211, entering through the Fuvest entrance exam. Therefore, the other 2,936 students will enter according to their Enem score, now with the benefit of no longer having delays in the selection process.
