According to an interview given by Nathalia Lobo, secretary of Telecommunications at the Ministry of Communications, the program Internet Brazil will support low-income youth aged between 8 and 18 years, students and who are part of social programs.
In this first phase of implementation, cities such as Caicó (RN), Mossoró (RN), Caruaru (PB), Petrolina (PE), Juazeiro (BA) and Campina Grande (PB) will be included, as they are the well-known municipalities pilots.
This dynamic of action in pilot municipalities is part of a set of measures carried out by the federal government with the aim of helping young Brazilians study. However, this was supposed to be at a more advanced level in view of the situation of the new times.
In addition to this program, there is another one under development that involves bringing internet to low-income people in other locations, the Wi-Fi Brazil.
In addition to Internet Brasil, the Wi-Fi Brasil program also intends to bring free internet to communities in situations of social vulnerability, where broadband does not reach.
This program, according to Nathalia, has already taken free internet to more than 17,000 locations throughout the country. Brazil, among them those that suffer most from social vulnerability, such as indigenous communities and maroons. In addition, the program also provides digital converters so that people can migrate from analogue to digital TV.
