Lesson Plan – Do I need it? Desires vs. needs

It is essential to develop moral values in students and rescue their history and culture to awaken a critical view, enabling the readjustment of their social attitudes.

This acts directly on formation of better-educated, empathetic and respectful citizens to the point of being concerned with others, having a spirit of collectivity.

For that, it is necessary teaching about respect for differences, addressing issues such as prejudice, discrimination and racism in the classroom.

To make this process more

dynamic, it is essential to propose practice of activitiesthat are appropriate to the student's age and the context experienced at school.
See some suggestions:

it's ok to be different

Necessary materials:

  • Information extracted from the birth certificate;
  • Comparative chart on the blackboard;
  • Mirror;
  • Chalk.

Step by step:

Based on the information on the students' birth certificates, the teacher should collect data on the origin of the students: where they were born, and as it appears on the certificate, if they are black, white or yellow and fill in a table with the following data:

Total students:

  • were born in the city
  • were born in the state
  • Born in other states
  • listed as white
  • listed as black
  • They appear as brown
  • appear as yellow

Afterwards, the advisor should hold a conversation circle and present images of people with different ethnicities and races. To add even more, one can
take images cut from newspapers, magazines or books to the classroom or project them.

The main objective is to question the students about the differences they are seeing and how important they are for them to relate to these people.

After the dialogue, take the students to the mirror, asking them to observe themselves: face shape, hair type, skin color, among others. later they
should make a self-portrait with all the features they find important. After that, each student should introduce themselves to the group by showing their self-portrait. The teacher should reflect on the differences and show that this is a good thing.

Finally, the guide will be able to ride together with the little ones, a panel, in the school yard, with self-portraits with the title “TUDO BEM SER DIFERENTE”.

Creating a different person

Necessary materials:

  • Books with images: Magazines, comic books, leaflets, among others;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue;
  • Colored sulphite paper.

Step by step:

Students must build the image of a person (adult man or woman or child), using parts of the bodies of different images that they obtained in the consultation material, assembling and pasting on the sheet of paper. Along with this, a short descriptive text should be written, telling what this “person” they built is like: what are their characteristics, what is their name, where they live and what they like.

Once completed, students should meet and present their constructions and comment on the result of the work.

The teacher should question whether any image was the same between the groups, and whether the differences made the results more or less interesting.
Finally, make a wall with the images and a message about respect for differences.

Different Design

Materials

  • bond paper
  • Pen

Step by step:

At the conductor's signal, students should draw a face with eyes and a nose, a mouth full of teeth, following the drawing by making a neck and torso. It is always important to emphasize that you cannot take the pencil or pen off the paper.

After everyone has finished, a circle should be formed with all the students, so that they can show their drawings and thus emphasize that no drawing is the same as the other, therefore, everyone perceives the same situation in different ways, that we are multifaceted, but with different world views, for this reason we must respect the other's point of view.

I prefer

Materials:

  • Frame
  • Chalk

Step by step:

The first step is to create a table on the blackboard dividing two sides “I like | I don't like ". Each student will name a fruit they love and one they can't even stand the smell of. Throughout the activity, some fruits will certainly be repeated, and may appear on both sides of the table. From this, the teacher will ask a person who likes a fruit if he would be friends with another person who hates his fruit.

Finally, the teacher should make a reflection about the respect of individual tastes and that no one is obliged to like something to please someone else, and that not even because of that, the person will be bad.

I respect religion

Necessary materials:

  • large room

Step by step:

Religious prejudice is something, unfortunately, very common in Brazil. Whether due to lack of knowledge or intolerance, people generally present erroneous stereotypes of some religions and thus segregate their members. Therefore, activities and dynamics involving this theme are extremely important, in order to to combat advance opinions.

The purpose of this activity is not to explain all religions, but to explain what faith is. With this explanation, the educator will point out that there are no right or wrong religions, and that the factor primordial involving this issue is faith, and that this must be respected regardless of anything. In addition, one should be aware of the importance of researching before judging.
