Disability retirement and sickness benefit are two distinct benefits provided by the INSS. Disability retirement is paid according to the employee's contribution period. Sickness aid is a benefit given when the worker is temporarily incapacitated due to an illness or accident. The calculations are also made according to the contribution time, but it differs from the disability pensioner.

Sickness aid is a disability benefit granted by the INSS to a worker who has suffered a accident or have been affected by an illness, and therefore are temporarily unable to carry out their activities. To request this benefit, the insured person needs to go to an INSS agency and undergo a medical examination that proves the inability to provide their services.
It is necessary to pay attention to the application deadline, because, if the insured person does not appear on the scheduled date or does not reschedule the medical expertise or request the cancellation of the application, you will be unable to apply for the benefit again for the next 30 days.
It is also possible to request an extension of the benefit for more than 15 days, but for this it is necessary to make an appointment by calling the number 135.
According to Law 8.213/91, every person who has any illness that generates permanent disability may be entitled to disability retirement after evaluation by an expert doctor.
However, it is not permanent and needs to be revalidated by the INSS every two years. However, insured persons over 60 or 55 years old, retired for more than 15 years or who have HIV and AIDS do not need to be reassessed.
Benefits are paid according to contribution time. Thus, the lowest amount received for disability retirement, in 2022, is R$ 1,212.00, up to the ceiling of R$ 7,087.22.
