Focused on expanding the Overture concept, the Boom Supersonic company has been looking for ways to achieve its goal: supplying supersonic commercial aircraft in an economical way. The purpose established by the company is to supply aircraft for distant flights, mainly for Executive class.
The idea of lowering fuel consumption by the aircraft will help with the value established for tickets to the point of preferring this option over the others. “Our expectation is that in many cases this will not be so different from what we pay in business class today. This is for Overture 1. There will be an Overture 1 and an Overture 3. The objective is to reduce the cost of high speed to the point where there is no reason for anyone to choose subsonic [flight]”, explains the company's CEO, Blake Scholl.

However, this will not be possible so quickly. So, those who are already interested in being able to get around quickly, with a cost similar to that of business class, will have to wait a while. “This will take time, it will be several generations of aircraft, but this is where we are going. Also, I think it's one of the reasons to be excited. In light of that, even with Overture 1, it's a 75% jump from what we've had before. That means it will be within reach of tens of millions of passengers on day one,” he comments.
At the same time in the interview, Scholl recalled the memorable supersonic plane, Concorde, which was in service from 1976 to 2003. To be able to use it, it was necessary to make a payment much higher than the amount established to fly in First Class on the Boeing 747. But in order to achieve the big goal, some modifications are necessary. He disclosed to the public that the design speed of Overture 1 was reduced to Mach 1.
Composite materials, lighter metals and new generation engines, able to function without afterburning, a feature that increases fuel consumption twice. “The Concorde had four engines and ran on afterburners… which means pouring fuel straight into the exhaust like that. that it comes out of the engine, so it burned a huge amount of fuel and was therefore very, very expensive,” said Scott Kirby.
Finally, he emphasized that the Overture does not consume fuel in the same way as the old Concorde, and consequently, it will be more affordable.
