Usually with these first rough cuts, it barely feels like a watchable movie. As Denis Villeneuve once said of his first four-hour cut of Blade Runner 2049, “You got to kill your darlings and I think four hours was pretty self-indulgent... It's [like that] at all films; there's always a long cut at the beginning. The first cut is always long… I won't show it to anyone, the four hours doesn't work. ”
When producer Hiram Garcia spoke to Steve Weintraub about his upcoming Red Notice, the subject of Black Adam's latest issue came up. “Often, when you see that initial cut, it sets a table where you realize, 'Okay, now we understand how much work [we have] to do,'” he said. And then he explained why, when watching the director's early cut of the superhero (er, superhero anti-hero) movie, he felt more confident than usual.
“We just saw the director's cut recently and were really excited,” Garcia tells us — and the director, just to remind you, is Jaume Collet-Serra, who recently directed Johnson in Jungle Cruise.
Black Adam hits theaters on July 29, 2022. Try not to get too excited and crazy until then.
