In a video published on Twitter, Ricardo Vélez Rodríguez reinforces that the university should not be geared towards everyone, but for those who wish to enter higher education and who must be able to compete for a vacancy.
“University, from the point of view of capacity, is not for everyone. Only a few people who want higher education and qualify for it enter university,” he says in the video.

Vélez Rodríguez adds in the video: “The university has to be democratic, that is, all those wishing to enter, must be on an equal footing in order to be able to compete for entry into the university.
The best thing to enter a university is quality basic education, where everyone graduates, everyone qualifies and everyone can compete on an equal footing”.
The National Education Plan (PNE) is a law that stipulates goals to improve the quality of education in the country. It establishes that at least 33% of the population aged 18 to 24 must be in university by 2024.
Currently, this percentage reaches 23.2%. In addition, it determines that the total percentage of students in relation to the population aged 18 to 24, the so-called gross enrollment rate, reaches 50%. The current rate is 34.6%. The information is from Agência Brasil.
