So, ready for the Enem? If your answer is yes, congratulations, but if you're missing out on your study routine, it's best to pay attention and start making up for lost time right now! The National High School Examination is the main gateway to the main Brazilian universities, therefore, it is essential that you know all the characteristics of this test, which is the most awaited (and feared!) students. But, you don't have to be afraid, to take the Enem by letter, you just need to prepare, dedicate yourself and read a lot!
Cultivating the habit of reading is essential for anyone who wants to be a good author. It is not enough to know all the grammar rules of the Portuguese language, as well as all the elements that involve textuality: you need to have a cultural repertoire, that is, you need to have a wide reading background that allows you to have good ideas and arguments irrefutable. Those who read more know in practice how the Portuguese language works, understand its mechanisms and dispense with memorizing, once they learn to use grammatical rules. In addition, reading opens up a range of possibilities and transforms us into critical and thinking readers.

Believe me, the abusive use of abbreviations can cause serious damage to your text! Widely used in information technology, they should be avoided in texts that require adaptation to the standard norm of the Portuguese language. In virtual environments they are welcome, since internet communication is marked by dynamism: many times we exchange the writing “in full” for equivalent abbreviations and even for symbols, it is not same? In the Enem essay, abbreviations should go far away, since they make it difficult to understand the text, in addition to contradicting the grammatical rules of good writing;
Rescuing that old word that you found in a dictionary from the beginning of the last century and throwing it into your textual productions is definitely not a good choice. Many people, to show that they are cultured and that they have an extensive and erudite vocabulary, opt for archaisms and other words that are difficult to understand, especially for the average reader.
This type of behavior undermines the construction of the text's meanings, in addition to denouncing an immense vanity on the part of the writer. Prefer the clarity and objectivity of words whose meanings are accessible. Attempting to use obsolete or obscure terms will not earn you points when correcting your text;
This seems like a basic and even silly rule, but believe me, many people make what can be considered a primary mistake. Taught there at the beginning of elementary school, it is a rule that must be respected, so it is not worth forgetting what you learned so long ago. Also don't forget that the same goes for the title of the essay, right?;
Expressions like, “last but not least”, “close with a flourish”, “the question that won't shut up”, etc., should be abolished from your writing. They reveal a certain “linguistic laziness”, in addition to being considered language addictions. To be original, you don't need to come up with wild ideas, that's definitely not what we propose. To be original, it is necessary, first of all, to avoid common sense.
Common sense is formed by shallow ideas, devoid of greater problematization and analysis. When we do not look for other voices, other opinions, other readings, we are fated to be mere reproducers of arguments: what you hear in the television news turns into absolute truth, tirelessly disseminated by those who do not bother to check other sources in order to forge their own opinion;
Do you like to use slang? It's okay, there's no problem with that. The problem happens when we do not respect the criterion of linguistic adequacy, that is, when we do not respect the communicational context in which we are inserted. If you are going to a job interview, the ideal thing is that, to be interviewed, you prefer the standard norm of the Portuguese language. If you are among friends, in a relaxed situation, there is nothing to prevent you from using another register, in this case colloquial language.
We are skilled speakers and tend to know how and where to use the various language registers, therefore, in writing the Enem, you must respect the cultural norms, otherwise your writing may be disqualified. Knowing the linguistic varieties represented by the different dialects and registers is one of the competences provided for in the Enem reference matrix. Slang is usually regional, so the broker won't waste a minute of your time trying to understand what you meant by a certain expression;
We are not even going to extend the discussion, after all, this type of linguistic behavior is not acceptable in any of the Portuguese language registers, do you agree? It seems obvious, but believe me: many candidates use this resource and, we don't even need to tell you that they are exemplarily punished, right? As expressive as these words may seem, leave it to use them in specific situations, if you can't avoid them at all, of course;
Generalizations denounce lack of knowledge and inability to reflect on a certain subject. Do you know why? Because when we generalize, we put everything in the same basket, without reflecting on the pertinence of this type of behavior. It's a bit like saying that all Germans are Nazis, or saying that all Arabs are terrorists, or saying that all Brazilians like samba and carnival, and so on. This type of statement only denounces the lack of reflection on a given subject, and what is worse, an absolutely prejudiced stance on the part of the writer. Generalizing demonstrates a lack of analysis of the arguments. Careful!;
This type of care eliminates the unnecessary repetition of terms, which generally disqualify a text. You should already know that cohesion, along with coherence, is one of the indispensable elements for writing that privileges the correct articulation of ideas and information in an essay, is not true? Through cohesive resources, we avoid grammatical errors, ambiguities and unsupported arguments;
Citations are important to establish in your writing an important element of textuality known as intertextuality. Therefore, they are welcome, as they show the proofreader that you are able to establish dialogic relationships between your text and other source texts, a competence provided for in the matrix of the writing test. But, you need to be aware: you can quote, but you can't use this resource in excess. Many people abuse quotes just to show how erudite they are, and thus forget to present their own original ideas. There are those who also appropriate excerpts from the collection, transcribing entire periods of opinion-forming texts. It is worth remembering that the broker wants to know your opinion, and not the opinion of third parties;
A rhetorical question is an interrogation that is not intended to obtain information or an answer, but rather to provoke an effect on the audience. addressee of the speech, possibly helping in the argument that is being made (e.g.: until when will the country be hostage to corruption, among others). This type of question EVENTUALLY collaborates with the argument, but most of the time they are absolutely unnecessary, since they do not interfere with the progression of the arguments and ideas of your text.
