Issuing Agency (or Issuing Agency) is the department or public body responsible for issuing various documents. The most common documents, which have an issuing agency, are the identity card, the birth certificate, the driver's license and the passport.
It is common for this to be one of the data requested in various types of forms. To locate the issuing agency in a document, simply check the name or abbreviation that accompanies the State in which it was issued on the side where the photo is located.

Normally, the bodies issuing the identity card are the Secretariat of Public Security of each state (SSP/UF) or the Civil Police (PC/UF). In the case of birth, marriage and death certificates, these are Civil Registry Offices. The Federal Police is responsible for issuing passports, and the Detran of each state, for driver's licenses.
Other bodies may also issue official documents, but appear less frequently. Some examples are: Secretariat of Justice for Labor and Citizenship (SJTC), National Secretariat of Justice / Department of Foreigners (SNJ), Ministry of Aeronautics (MAE), Ministry of the Army (MEX), Ministry of the Navy (MMA), Military Police (POM), Directorate of Civil Identification (DIC) and General Technical Police Department (DPT).
Professional Councils can also be document issuing bodies. This is the case of the Regional Council of Medicine (CRM), which issues the medical identity card, or the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), which issues identification to lawyers.
If they ask for the agency that issued your RG, which is indicated on your identity card, just put SSP + the abbreviation of your state, if the identity was taken from the civil police.
