The activities will be carried out over the internet, through classes, experiments, murals, lectures, conversations with guest scientists and guidance from the so-called “fairy godmothers”, scientists from the project.
The project was born in 2019 and was conceived by women from IAG/USP and other institutes in the area of exact sciences. It was created with the aim of teaching science to basic education students and facilitating their access to university.
In addition, it aims to encourage more women to opt for careers in the areas of science and technology, as well as deconstructing the stereotype of a mostly male science.
Astronomy, due to its highly interdisciplinary profile, was chosen as a tool in the project, which is coordinated by Professor Dr. Elysandra Figueredo Cypriano and has Professor Lilian Maria Soja and four undergraduate students on the organizing committee. In addition, it has undergraduate and graduate students as volunteers.
Registration is free and can be done by girls from all over Brazil, as long as they have access to an internet-enabled device to watch videos and participate in discussion groups on Whatsapp. It is important to emphasize that the project only includes girls (cis and trans), who are currently studying from the 9th year of Elementary School II to the 2nd year of High School.
In order to register, it is necessary to fill in a online form on the Astrominas website. Vacancies will be drawn and the deadline for registration will be on May 20th. The activities will be free and carried out completely at a distance, between June 1st and July 3rd.
The project requires dedication from the student of 1 hour per day, and the digital certificate will be issued after completing all the activities.
