O Complexo do Alemão will receive a new campus for the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ). The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Education, Camilo Santana, during his visit to the community in Rio de Janeiro. The planned investment is R$ 25 million for the construction of the new unit.
The campus will be built on land that was expropriated by the City Hall ofRio de Janeiro, formalizing the commitment to the project. Authorities, professors, deans and members of the local community were present at the announcement ceremony.

Camilo Santana highlighted the importance of access to education and said that the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, shows great commitment to this area.
In his speech, the minister pointed out that world history has already proven that education is fundamental for the liberation of people and the development of young people and children.
The project for the construction of the campus gained momentum after the visit of the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, to the Ministry of Education, where she met with the minister and community leaders in Complexo do Alemão. On that occasion, the need to resume construction of the IFRJ unit in the region was reinforced.
The mayorEduardo Paes highlighted that the initiative aims to promote inclusion and equality in access to education, meeting the needs of community residents.
The act of building the new campus is the result of articulation between the Federal Government and some community leaders from Complexo do Alemão.
During his visit to the community, Camilo Santana was also at Nave do Conhecimento, in the Nova Brasília community, space that offers free internet, technology courses, workshops and leisure to qualify residents locally.
In addition to the announcement made in Complexo do Alemão, the Minister of Education also visited the works at the Faculty of Mathematics IMPA Tech, which will receive a federal investment of R$ 16.7 million to start its activities in 2024 in Rio de January.
The agenda also included a visit to the Experimental Technological Gym (GET) Elza Soares, which offers full-time teaching, as part of MEC's plans to expand this school model to the entire country.
Camilo Santana stressed the importance of quality and connected education for children, and his team, made up of secretaries of Continuing Education, Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion, Higher Education, and Professional and Technological Education, accompanied him throughout trip.
