crippled, a Brazilian artist who represented the phase of brazilian baroque poetry, architecture and sculpture as a major artistic expression, produced the sculpture of the “twelve prophets” made in soapstone made between 1794 and 1804 located in the churchyard of the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos Sanctuary, in the municipality of Congonhas.
Aleijadinho was certainly aware of the theme, through engravings, the usual way of disseminating iconographic and artistic themes in the era before photography. So much so that Daniel's laurel wreath and Jonah's whale are curiously analogous to engravings edited in Florence in the 15th century.
