For the general coordinator of Secondary Education at MEC, Wisley Pereira, the formalization of the references of the training itineraries is another step taken by the ministry towards the new secondary education.
“This signals the importance of making the necessary changes in Brazilian secondary education to serve today's youth”. Still according to Wisley, 3,558 pilot schools currently participate in the Support Program for New Middle School, via 'PDDE New Middle School'.
They have already received 20% of the total amount of BRL 350 million secured in 2019. The program provides financial support with the objective of guaranteeing the implementation of the students' life project, in addition to curriculum flexibility and an annual workload of at least 1,000 hours.
Resources are transferred directly to each school unit, which will have to meet certain goals throughout the program. In New High School, the workload of all schools will be increased from 2,400 to 3,000 hours.
The federal government will invest up to R$ 1.5 billion to assist around 500,000 new enrollments in full-time schools, where students spend at least 7 hours a day.
Another important step towards the implementation of the New Secondary School was the launch of the Support Program for the Implementation of the National Common Curricular Base (ProBNCC), which took place on April 4th. The initiative will help states, municipalities and the Federal District in the preparation and implementation of their curricula aligned with the BNCC. The program is organized on two fronts: one for early childhood education and elementary school, which in 2019 corresponds to the training of education professionals and the review of pedagogical projects; the other is for secondary education, which provides for the revision and elaboration of curricula.
