The lack of encouragement and recognition for teachers, unfortunately it is not a surprise, but this scenario can become even worse compared to other professionals.
Recent studies by the Todos pela Educação Movement reveal that a teacher of basic education graduated in higher education earns, on average, 30% less than another professional with the same education.

On average, basic education teachers with higher education receive BRL 3,823 in front of BRL 5,477 of Brazilian graduate workers. According to the Brazilian Yearbook of Basic Education 2019, an initiative by Todos Pela Educação with Editora Modern, the difference becomes even more striking when compared to professionals in the area of Exact Sciences or Health. The discrepancy reaches the order of 50%, that is, half of the salary.
Still according to the studies, to change this reality, an investment of at least 43% in kindergarten to secondary education is necessary, which seems far from reality.
Deficient in the sector of the economy, the country will hardly have resources to invest in education. According to the project coordinator of the Todos pela Educação Movement, Caio Callegari, the educator's salary corresponds to the main source of spending on education.
The lack of incentive is not only for working professionals, but also for those who graduate. A study by Fundação Getúlio Vargas reveals that the type of university where the undergraduate course was taken is a determining factor in defining the salary, a disparity that can exceed 100% and that persists even among professionals who graduated equally from universities federal.
In Minas Gerais, 85.6% of teachers in basic education graduated from the university, where 36.3% of them have a postgraduate degree. From a national perspective, these numbers stand at 79.9% and 36.9%, respectively. However, fortunately, the average salary of public school teachers has been growing more and more. In the last 7 years, the increase was 6.4%. But this advance does not exclude the challenges of education. For example, about 10% of the municipalities still do not have a career plan for their teachers.
