Public schools may receive a student magazine and generate controversy

Public schools in the Federal District may adopt new safety rules by the end of this month. The new school regiment provides for measures such as review of student material. Terms of conduct adjustment and mandatory uniform use will also be adopted.

Respect and decorum in dealing with teachers will also be rigorous. Reimbursement in case of property depredation is also included in the measures. In addition, there will be reinforcement in the presence of police inside the schools.

The proposal is from the Department of Education and was conceived from a questionnaire applied by the Military Police. The survey was conducted in public schools in 2018. All schools and regional teaching coordinations were also consulted this year.

Last week, the deadline for schools and the community to comment on the draft published on the internet expired. A working group analyzes the suggestions and the DF Education Council should issue an ordinance amending the bylaws later this month.

The measures, however, are not unanimous among the academic community.

Controversy

Education researcher, sociologist Marina Carvalho Paz disagrees with some actions. She thinks the new regiment can produce little change. “At most what we are going to do is punish the student and then look for a new school to transfer him. It already happens”.

According to her, the decision “was little thought out”. “It makes more sense for the school to build a regulation with the school community, including the prediction of applicable punishments. A term agreed between directors, teachers, students and parents ”, he believes.

A resident of Ceilândia and with three children enrolled in public schools, Ribamar Ferreira Neto says he “completely agrees” with the new rules. "Out of debt, out of danger. If it is to increase security, I agree”.

Ribamar's brother, Edmar Ferreira Neto, also agrees. "Things when they are too loose tend to yield to the bad side". He says that, at his eldest son's school, there have been episodes of knife fights, without major consequences. With information from Agência Brasil.
