On the morning of this Tuesday, March 17th, the government of the State of São Paulo announced the first death in Brazil due to coronavirus. The victim is a 62-year-old man who belonged to the risk group, with diabetes, hypertension and prostatic hyperplasia.
Even today, at 1 pm, the São Paulo State Health Secretariat will hold a press conference to provide more information about the case. The Secretary of Health, José Henrique Germann, and the coordinator of the Coronavirus Contingency Center, infectologist David Uip, will be present at the meeting.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health made on Monday, March 16, in Brazil there are 234 confirmed cases of Covid-19. More than half of them, 152 cases, are from São Paulo.
The mayor of the city of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, decreed emergency situation
in the capital to avoid further contagion by the disease. Among the measures adopted are the suspension of private events, concerts, cultural meetings, street races, vehicle rotation and any other activity that promotes crowding.Another referral is for public transport to be sanitized numerous times throughout the day and the terminals buses offer gel alcohol for drivers, collectors and employees to clean their hands at the end of each route.
For civil servants in the city, the decree delimits that those infected by the Covid-19 get off leave. Another exception is for those who have returned from traveling abroad, pregnant or breastfeeding women, the elderly or others belonging to the risk group to work remotely.
