The Minister of Education, Abraham Weintraub, published a video on its social network, last Wednesday (03/11), suggesting distance learning as one of the “one-off emergency measures” due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
For Weintraub, educational institutions need to prepare and have a “remote” lesson plan ready, as with the suspension of classes, crowding will be avoided. Another possibility is the holiday calendar change.

Also on Wednesday (11/03), the Council of the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (USP), after confirming a case of the new coronavirus among its students, issued an official statement suspending the activities.
In the video, the Minister of Education suggests that a contingency scenario should be considered, “I think it is the best solution”, he highlighted. According to Weintraub, schools and universities should also avoid holding meetings, seminars and symposiums.
Simultaneously with the publication of the video, the Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, was in an audience at the Chamber of Deputies, talking about Covid-19.
During his speech, Mandetta did not eliminate the possibility of suspending classes, but analyzes it as a possible risk for the children's grandparents. The elderly or people with diseases such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, clotting problems and signs of sepsis are the main risk group of coronavirus.
As the Ministers of Health and Education discussed, by adopting school holidays or suspending classes, the most children will stay with their grandparents and may expose the most vulnerable population with the greatest Lethality.
The Secretary of Health Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Wanderson de Oliveira, argues that the possibility of changing the vacation period is a suggestion, not a recommendation. So they are studying all the alternatives.
