To combat the causes of accidents at work, four cities in the region of Campinas (SP) — Limeira, Piracicaba, Santa Barbara d’Oeste and Indaiatuba — created the project “Zero Death”, which works as a database, mapping this type of accident and allowing information on how to avoid them to be shared on the network.

The so-called “case bank” will facilitate the clarification of accidents that have occurred, and consequently the taking actions to build intervention and security plans between institutions participants. All this with the intention of reducing deaths from this type of cause.
According to the Labor Public Prosecutor's Office, the participation of municipalities is very important, as information shared in this bank will be used for the development of specific public policies for prevention.
The person responsible for the action is the Public Ministry of Labor of São Paulo in partnership with the Center for Reference in Occupational Health, the Fire Department, City Halls and five centers of researches. The choice of municipalities involved was based on participation in the pilot study and proximity to partners.
The estimate for making the data available is the first half of 2022.
According to some data, most accidents at work occur in civil construction activities. In three of the participating cities, the number of cases between 2017 and 2020 reached 25,387.
In 2020 alone, Piracicaba had 2,524 accidents and 4 deaths due to work. Limeira had 1,418 accidents and 2 deaths, while Santa Barbara D'Oeste had 988 accidents and 1 death.
The research centers that will be collaborating with the project are from the University of São Paulo and the State University of Campinas.
“It will be possible to form an educational process with the companies and workers in that locality. It is a powerful tool for planning preventive actions, which also makes it possible to offer support to victims' families through an approximation with City Halls", explains Mario Antônio Gomes, attorney and one of the creators of from the project.
There is a forecast for the project to be expanded since, in 2020 alone, Campinas recorded 3,952 accidents at work, 14 of which resulted in deaths.
