In a recent study that came out in the Journal of Arachnology this year, we had access to Euoplos Dignitas, a species of spider that we had not known about before. According to the researchers responsible for the discovery, this species belongs to the group we call “trapdoor spiders” and its name indicates “greatness”.

In the study, we also know that scientists at the Queensland Museum, in Australia, needed to develop research for almost four years to find it. This demonstrates how much this spider can hide and stay away from predators. So much so that all this time it remained a secret.

Furthermore, what draws the most attention is its size, as the females of this species reach five centimeters in length. Despite this, they are not lethal as far as poisonous substances are concerned. In fact, they use force to hunt their prey and feed themselves, as they don't have venom like other species.

What are the chances of meeting this invertebrate animal?

Alright, we already understand that this spider doesn't have venom, but that doesn't mean we'd like to find it like that easily. Well, lucky for us, there are not many chances that you will come across this spider in your home. This is not just in Brazil, because even people who live in Australia, where it was found, are safe.

After all, this trapdoor spider has remained intact and far from everyone for so long, precisely because it thrives in a specific environment. In this case, they need a very specific place of black soil that is in Queensland, Australia. Nowhere else could this spider reproduce or survive.
