Last Friday (21), the Federal Government published Law 14.628/23 in the Official Gazette, which makes official the return of the Food Acquisition Program (PAA).

According to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, this is a government initiative to guarantee the population “the right to the necessary calories and proteins”.
This also aims to support small and medium-sized farmers who are unable to market their products.
The Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, assured that public purchases will be earmarked for food security programs, in addition to public education networks in Brazil.
Existing in 2003, the PAA was replaced, during the Bolsonaro Government, by the Programa Alimenta Brasil. Now, the Food Acquisition Program returns with its original name and characteristics.
However, there are some news. Among them, from now on, the individual value marketable by family farms jumped from R$ 12,000 to R$ 15,000.
However, this choice can only be selected under the “Simultaneous Donation”, “Inventory Formation” and “Direct Purchase” modalities.

In addition, another important change that was implemented with the return of the PAA was the participation of society in management.
It takes place through the Food Acquisition Program Management Group (GGPAA) and the Advisory Committee, made up of at least 50% women.
Just last Friday, the President of the Republic also announced the creation of the Solidarity Kitchen, which aims to provide food for homeless people and food security.
The idea is to be able to promote food education, encourage healthy eating practices, in addition to addressing reuse and good food handling practices.
