Entries can be made via awards website. The main objective of the award is to recognize and value good educational practices, promoting the exchange of experiences among professionals in the field worldwide.
The award consists of three stages. In the first, 50 educators will be selected by December of this year. In February of next year, ten finalists will be announced by the institution. The final coronation takes place during the Global Education and Skills Forum, when the name of the winner among the finalists is announced live.
The Global Teacher Prize is in its fifth year and is organized by a charity called the Varkey Foundation. In 2018, two Brazilian professors were among the 50 best in the world, Rubens Ferronato, from Curitiba and Diego Mahfouz Faria Lima, from São José do Rio Preto. Diego was one of those who made it to the finals.
The winner of the edition, however, was an arts teacher from the United Kingdom, Andrea Zafirakou. Brazil also shone in 2017, when Wemerson da Silva Nogueira, from Espírito Santo, and Valter Pereira de Menezes, from Amazonas, were selected for the award. The same happened with Márcio de Andrade Batista, from Mato Grosso, in 2016.
