After discovering a homeless man living in a tent at the back of his restaurant, a pizzeria owner made the compassionate decision to allow him to remain. Recognizing the predicament the individual was in, the owner of the establishment felt it was his duty to help someone in need.
However, this selfless act has resulted in serious repercussions from city officials, who are questioning the legality of the situation.

Eric Weber, owner of The Slice restaurant in Evansville, Indiana, decided to allow a man in homeless people to lodge in the back of his restaurant after discovering that he was sleeping in a tent. Weber refuses to dislodge him, as the man has nowhere else to go and takes shelter on the premises.
While Weber's decision to help the individual is commendable, he faces legal consequences from city officials for failing to comply with local regulations. Since he found the man living in a tent behind his restaurant, Weber has taken it upon himself to offer support and assistance as best he can.
The property owner is being fined up to $7,000 by the City of Evansville for failing to evict the man who lives in the back of his pizzeria. He expressed his conviction that it is wrong simply to throw someone out in a vulnerable situation.
It has already been fined $500 by the Evansville Area Planning Commission, which found the tent a structure in violation of municipal land use laws. While the fine continues to increase daily and can reach upwards of $7,000 a day, Weber remains steadfast in his decision not to evict the man. For him, it's about doing what's right and supporting someone who has nowhere else to go.
Unfortunately, the homeless population in the United States has increased in recent years. According to data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, in 2022, approximately 582,000 Americans were living on the streets. This represents approximately 18 people per 10,000 individuals in the US, an increase of about 2,000 people compared to the year 2020.
