The film was called "absurd" by the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, it was also criticized for being too serious. However, even so, it seems that the general public is enjoying the plot, which proves, once again, that the public and critics do not always have the same opinion.
Briefly, the plot of the cinematographic work is about an astrophysics professor named John (Nicolas Cage), who finds a time capsule that was buried for about 5 years. The professor finds a document with coded messages when opening the capsule, which refer to creepy omens.
In this document, John finds messages about tragedies that occurred in the last 5 decades and identifies three disasters that will occur in the future, one of them being a global cataclysm. In this way, the protagonist needs to prevent the tragedies from happening and for that he will have the help of some people.
Omen opened in theaters in 2009 and, at the time, performed satisfactorily. The film earned US$183 million at the box office, plus US$27 million from DVD sales, while its budget was US$50 million. In Brazil, the film had been in the Netflix catalog for a long time, but it only became popular now.
In addition to the protagonist Nicolas Cage, the cast of the film includes names like Rose Byrne, Ben Mendelsohn and Liam Hemsworth, brother of actor Chris Hemsworth.
The direction is by Alex Proyas, who also directed works such as Eu, Robô. Initially the project was offered to different directors by Columbia Pictures, but it was rejected and later taken up by Escape Artists.
Watch Omen as soon as possible, as it is not a Netflix original work and therefore may be out of print soon.
