Lesson Plan for the First Day of Class

THEME: first day of school

DURATION: 30 to 40 minutes

GOALS:

• O first day of school it's a great opportunity to meet your new students and find out a little more about them.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:

• M&M's
• Cards
• Plastic pot
• beans

INTRODUCTION:

start your class plan for the first day of class presenting the class with a cool idea about behavior and positivity, say that you will leave an empty pot in the room with some goals to be achieved during the year. Advise that some beans will be given at the end of each class, depending on the behavior of the class. When the pot reaches the goal, the class will benefit from the suggested activity.

Ideas for activities to achieve: Movies with popcorn, ice cream for everyone, recreational class, etc.

DEVELOPMENT:

Fun with M&M's: Everyone loves M&M's. In addition to eating them, you can also use them for some back-to-school fun. Divide the M&M’s into a few cups and share them with your students. Students have to choose an M&M's blindfolded and tell a story or answer the question. Each color represents the following question:

• Red: something about yesterday
• Orange: something you are good at doing
• Yellow: something about your childhood
• Blue: something you learned last week
• Brown: something you can't live without
• Green: something you watch or listen to (cartoon or music)

fun game: To get to know your students, you could ask them crazy questions. Make fun cards and let them choose one. They have to answer the question “would you rather…?”.

Here are some examples:

• Would you rather eat raisins every day or eat peas?
• Would you rather walk around with a hole in your pants or a broken zipper?
• Would you rather eat a salad or liver?
• Would you rather have lunch with the president or a famous singer?
• Would you rather adopt a cat or a dog?
• Would you rather have a pool or a horse?

Ice breaker: For this classroom icebreaker, students need to be flexible and balanced. For each student, the teacher places a chair. All chairs must line up in a single row. Every student has to stay in a chair. Then, the teacher asks them to stand up and then the fun of having them lined up in a certain order begins.

For example: "I want you to organize yourselves from youngest to oldest". Students now have to change places without touching the floor.
