This is already the second return date passed by General Motors, the owner of the brand. She announced, in December 2021, that the resumption would take place from January 24, 2022, which did not happen.
If the information is true, the resumption of production of this car could mean a new entry for Chevrolet in the electromobility sector worldwide. Production of the vehicle was halted due to fire risk alerts.
In the second half of 2021, the company disclosed that more than 140,000 vehicles in this line would need to undergo a review. It all started at the end of 2020, when there were some reports of these cars on fire, and from that, an investigation began of what could be happening.
This issue also had to be reviewed here in Brazil, where the automobile line was among the best electric car options in the country. With an electric motor of 203 hp and 36.7 kgfm of torque, the car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
After a few cases, the diagnosis is that the problem would be related to the battery module. LG, the Korean company that supplies these modules, has agreed to reimburse GM for costs related to recalls (repairs made to damaged vehicles). The value was estimated at US$ 2 billion, which is equivalent to 10.3 billion reais.
A software was developed to identify and diagnose the damaged modules and, from that, GM works to make the changes in the 140 thousand cars indicated. In addition, the factory where Bolt production will resume will be in Orion Assembly, Michigan and is expected to be up and running on April 4th.
