The E-Investidor portal carried out a survey comparing food prices in two large supermarket chains: Extra and Carrefour. The foods used in the research were those that are part of the basic food basket: rice, beans, pasta, salt, sugar, some vegetables, grated tuna and soybean oil.
In addition to the supermarket brands themselves, five other brands of similar quality that offered the same products were also compared. As a result, it can be seen that, in 60% of the surveys, the chains' own brand products had the best prices.
Furthermore, as a result of the comparison with the four cheapest products, the discounts in relation to the products produced by the chains reached 12.10%. That is, coming out much more into account than the other brands.
An excellent tip to save on home purchases is to opt for fair products when it comes to vegetables. Usually, these products, as well as fruits and eggs, cost much less in high street stores. According to specialists in the area, the tendency is to lower the price and increase the quality.
It is also important to go to the fair or supermarket with all the products you are interested in buying already noted on a list. That way, you avoid superfluous purchases that you don't need at the moment.
