Is it possible to clean the sofa at home?

Many people think that only a professional can clean a sofa, but you can actually do this cleaning using products and items you have around the house. So, in addition to saving money, you can do this more often, which will keep your furniture clean for longer.

But for this, it is important to know the proper cleaning method and take all the characteristics of the sofa into account. For example, using products that are not compatible with the fabric can cause stains and permanent damage. So first, make sure you're using the right substance so you don't have problems later.

Essential tips for cleaning your sofa

Pay attention to the dust that is always present

Anywhere, dust is always present in the air. Even if you can't see it, dirt can get trapped in the upholstery and affect the sofa's hygiene. In most cases, a vacuum cleaner is enough to do that quick cleaning for maintenance. So include this activity in your cleaning routine.

Note what type of fabric your furniture is made of

For all types of cleaning, you must always pay attention to the instructions that are present on the label of each product. See the main guidelines below:

  • Fabric, linen and velvet: Take a clean cloth, moisten it with warm water and a little white vinegar. Pass it on the couch and let it dry naturally.
  • Leather or “faux leather”: Take a cloth dipped in a mixture of water and a detergent (neutral, colorless). If you want, use liquid silicone with the help of a flannel to protect your furniture. If possible, make this application every three months to hydrate the couch.
  • Suede: to clean this type of fabric, be careful and use a cloth slightly dampened with water and add a neutral cleaning product if the furniture is very dirty.
