Do you know what happens to your body when you avoid leaving the house and isolate yourself?

Being alone and not wanting to leave the house is an attitude that deserves attention. People are not always able to differentiate between liking to stay at home and avoiding social interaction. Often, this preference can be a way of not being able to leave the behavior of social isolation.

Humans are sociable beings who need contact with their peers to be satisfied and motivated in life. Including Dr. Drauzio Varella pointed out that the last few years of research in the areas of neuroscience, psychology and epidemiology have been devoted to behavioral studies on human connections.

7 smart tips to deal with unresponsiveness on WhatsApp

This frequent choice to be alone actually aggravates the state of loneliness and feelings of sadness, emptiness and lack of perspective. Which consequently affects people's physical and mental health.

However, social isolation and loneliness are not the same thing. The first represents a lack of social contact and the second is an emotional state. Sometimes, being in isolation can be a choice and a search for a moment of

reflectionand self-knowledge.

However, concern must be present when you can no longer get out of social isolation.

The effects of avoiding socializing

Science already proves that loneliness and isolation affect physical health. Even, according to Dr. Drauzio Varella, research identifies that the number of early deaths increases among people who have fewer social relationships.

But what are the consequences for the body of people who are in social isolation? The main effects are:

  • Cardiovascular diseases (triggered by the accumulation of negative emotions)
  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorder
  • Low self-esteem
  • Low immunity
  • Excessive fear of judgment
  • Excessive consumption of harmful substances (alcohol, drugs and cigarettes)

In some cases, leaving the behavior of social isolation requires the beginning of a process of self-knowledge and practical actions that stimulate social interaction.

Thus, it is necessary to create strategies to encourage human contact and seek professional help from psychologists, if it's necessary.

How to Deal with Loneliness and Get Back to Socializing

  • Seek professional help: seek counseling or support from individual or group therapy;
  • Participate in group activities: identify your main interests, do volunteer work and look for communities that offer collective activities;
  • Get back in touch with friends: look for friends and people you know who can be a support and company for your activities;
  • Practice virtual interaction: maintain virtual contact by video or voice call with family and friends;
  • Do physical exercises: choose one physical activity to release endorphins and improve mood and disposition in routine.

The lack of prolonged social contact generates physical and mental consequences that promote a lot of suffering. Therefore, it is very important to avoid self-criticism and recognize the benefits of social contact for your routine and health.
