This measure reduced costs not only in relation to distributors, but also had an impact on the final consumer. Since, as informed by Petrobras when decreasing the values:

“This reduction accompanies the evolution of reference prices and is consistent with Petrobras' pricing practice, which seeks balance of their prices with the market, but without the pass-through to internal prices of the conjunctural volatility of quotations and the interest rate exchange".

Kitchen gas in December 2022

In December, the average price of a 13 kg gas cylinder went from R$ 109.99 to R$ 109.43, the equivalent of a reduction of 0.5%, which also symbolized the fourth fall within the same week, according to the survey carried out by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

In this way, the cost of cooking gas for the final consumer began to stagnate just below R$ 110, which it is still a very high value, but relatively lower than the previous ones, having reached R$ 120.37 in the year past.

The value of cooking gas grew so much that the government had to implement Vale-gás, which was launched in December 2021, granting, initially, half the value of the national average price of the gas cylinder in 13 kg. This benefit later increased, allowing beneficiaries to receive the amount of R$ 110 on a bimonthly basis.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the new government will maintain the benefit for 2023, as Vale-gás was linked to the Brazil Aid, which was replaced by Bolsa Família, which in theory would extinguish all benefits linked to the previous aid.
