Shar-Pei dogs have been around for over 2,000 years. The name means “sandy skin” in Cantonese, one of the Chinese dialects. It is a medium-sized breed that originated in southern China.
Initially Shar-Pei were used as guard dogs and hunters of animals by peasants. But later they also started to go as a company for combats. In 1978 the breed was considered the rarest in the world by the Guinness book, until today they are very rare dogs to find.
