There are specific parameters that define who needs to declare the Income Tax, and the Federal Revenue Service is responsible for establishing these criteria. In this sense, the purpose of the statement is to check, through an analysis of the taxes paid according to the citizen's monthly income, whether the information described is legal.

In addition, based on income verification, an amount to be paid is established. It is precisely in this that there will be possible changes for the year 2022, as there is a bill in the process of being processed. Therefore, taxpayers should pay less to the “lion” this year.

Proposal to expand the IR exemption

The project is authored by Senator Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA) and aims to reformulate both the Individual Income Tax (IRPF) and the Corporate Income Tax (IRPJ). The idea is that the IRPF exemption range goes from R$ 1,903.98, which is the current limit, to R$ 3,300. The measure aims to ease the charge for people with lower incomes, and may start to take effect as early as 2022.

In this way, it will be possible to contemplate around 5.6 million new taxpayers. So, the number of exempt people should reach 16.3 million Brazilians, while the current number is 10.7 million. The project also foresees a range of readjustments according to income. Check out:

  • Tier 1 – up to BRL 2,500: exempt;
  • Range 2 – From BRL 2,500.01 to BRL 3,200: 7.5%;
  • Range 3 – BRL 3,200.01 to BRL 4,250: 15%;
  • Range 4 – BRL 4,250.01 to BRL 5,300: 22.5%;
  • Range 5 – Above BRL 5,300.01: 27.5%.

simplified statement

At first, the project sent by the government suggested a limitation for the simplified declaration. Thus, only taxpayers with a monthly income of up to R$ 3,333 could use the modality.

However, the opposition demanded that this rule be withdrawn for the project to be approved in the Chamber of Deputies. Therefore, the simplified declaration is maintained, that is, the taxpayer who so wishes may request a 20% deduction of the IR on the sum of taxed income.
