Enem will change criteria to suit the New High School

Students enrolled in the National High School Examination (Enem) will be able to choose which assessment they will take on the second day of the test.

On the first day, the common content taught to all students in the country will be charged. The new model was presented by the Minister of Education, Rossieli Soares. The exam, however, will not be changed next year, which should occur in 2021.

The changes are necessary to adapt Enem to the new high school, whose law was approved in 2017. Under the new law, students will undergo training common to the entire country, defined by the so-called National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), which is still under discussion. in the National Council of Education (CNE), and for specific training, which may be in languages, mathematics, natural sciences, human sciences or teaching technician.

Enem will follow the same model. On the first day, the BNCC will be charged and, on the second, the student will be evaluated according to the chosen itinerary.

“The Enem has to be a reflection of the secondary education that we want. If you are going to have flexibility, the itinerary is not just a deepening, they are different paths, you have to evaluate these itineraries”, said Rossieli Soares.

The changes in Enem are foreseen in the new National Curriculum Guidelines for secondary education, approved by the minister.

However, to put it into practice, the BNCC must be approved by the CNE. The Ministry of Education (MEC) intends to see the National Curriculum Base approved this year, but this will depend on the CNE's agenda.

Asked about the possibility that the changes foreseen in the Enem will not be implemented in the next government, Minister Rossieli Soares said that, for that, the new president would have to change the norms current. “It is up to the new government to evaluate and implement the policies, but what is normal is that it must be complied with, unless it changes the norm. The guidelines are norms that will be in force in Brazil, so they must be followed throughout Brazil”, said the minister.

He pointed out that much of implementation of the new high school it will be up to the new government, which will have to take care of the choice of textbooks, teacher training and new stage evaluations. “The construction of the evaluation matrix, the actual construction of the Enem and the new Enem will be up to the new government, which should, in the first years, carry out a series of constructions.”

By the end of the year, the government should define the references that will be used by schools and teaching networks in offering training itineraries.

According to the new guidelines, itineraries must be organized, each following the following requirements: scientific research, creative processes, mediation and sociocultural intervention and entrepreneurship. Each municipality must offer at least two itineraries in different areas for students to choose from. The information is from Agência Brasil.
