1. Enabling the Grid for image composition

One of the main rules of photography is the proper composition of the image. To assist in this process, the Camera app offers the “Grid” option.

When activated, the screen is divided into vertical and horizontal lines, providing a grid that helps to position the elements of the photo in a balanced and aesthetically pleasing way. To enable the Grid:

  • Go to “Settings”;

  • Find the “Camera” app;

  • Activate the “Grid” option.

2. Changing the format of photos with “Live”, “Looping” and “Vai e Volta”

In addition to traditional still photos, the iPhone Camera app offers format options such as “Live”, “Looping” and “Round and Round”.

With the “Live” function, it is possible to capture small videos before and after the photo, ideal for bringing images to life. The “Looping” mode creates animated gifs from the photo, while “Vai e Volta” plays the “Live” back and forth, creating an interesting effect.

Such features allow you to experiment with new forms of expression and make your photos more dynamic.

3. Creating Long Exposure Effect with “Live Photos”

The “Live Photos” function is an interesting way to insert the long exposure effect directly on your iPhone.

With this tool activated, the camera records a short video of one and a half seconds before and after the capture moment.

This is great for producing photos with a smoky effect, like the famous moving waterfalls. To apply the long exposure effect, just tap the “Live” button on the captured photo and select the “Long Exposure” option.

4. Improving quality with HDR

The High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature of the iPhone allows for greater detail and realism in photos, especially in scenarios with high light contrast.

On iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone 12 models, you can adjust when to use Smart HDR in “Settings” in the “Camera” app.

Starting with iPhone 12, recording video it can also be done in HDR Dolby Vision, ensuring colors and contrast true to the scene.

However, it is important to apply HDR sparingly, as in some cases, such as moving or low-light shots, it can result in shallow images.

5. Experimenting with color filters

To give your photos a special touch, the Camera app offers the option of including color filters via “Photographic Styles”.

Such filters adjust warm, cool tones and contrasts in images, enabling you to generate different atmospheres and styles in your photos.

Some examples include “Rich Contrast,” which accentuates shadows, “Vibrant,” which enhances colors, and “Warm” and “Cool,” which emphasize golden and blue undertones, respectively.

With these five functions of the app Camera, you'll be ready to capture stunning, professional photos with your iPhone. Take the opportunity to explore your creativity and take your photography skills to the next level.
