In August 2022, Congress approved Law n. 2564/2020, establishing a base salary of BRL 4,750 for nurses, with proportional floors of 70% of this value for technicians and 50% for assistants and midwives, corrected by the INPC (National Price Index at Consumer).
However, this law was suspended by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) due to claims by sector entities about the impossibility of bearing the new costs.
In May 2023, however, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned Bill n. 14,581, which earmarked a special credit of R$7.3 billion in the National Health Fund budget for that states and municipalities could pay the national minimum wage for workers in the nursing.

In small companies, a newly graduated nurse can earn around R$2,211.40, while a professional with more than eight years of experience can earn around R$5,398.93. In large companies, the average salary can reach R$ 9,000 for professionals with experience.
To become a nurse, it is necessary to attend a nursing degree recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), which lasts 4 to 5 years.
Currently, there are options in both face-to-face and the distance (EaD), being the second interesting alternative for those who need to reconcile their studies with other activities. The nursing diploma, whether in person or at a distance, is equally valid, provided that the educational institution is recognized by the MEC.
The labor market is expanding and, for nurses, it offers several opportunities interesting in several areas, with attractive salaries and a growing demand for professionals empowered.
