With up to 35 centimeters in length and about 100 grams, it has a large beak, measuring 7.2 centimeters. The neck is thin and the song is long.
Also known as the great-billed woodcreeper, the bird uses its tail as a support to climb trees and explores, with its beak, crevices in the woods and bark of trees in search of food. The “instrument” is also used to pull out and break pieces of bark and remove mosses and lichens with side blows.
The males are larger than the females of the species. Both take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the offspring, which are born blind and covered in feathers.
