Ant colonies are built with complex architecture and can be divided into an external and an internal part. The external part – which is above the ground – is called murundu and is formed by one or more holes, which are the rounded openings through which ants enter and exit.
The inner part of the nests is formed by underground chambers connected to each other and also to the lookouts through tunnels. These chambers are used to cultivate the fungus garden.
