Could solar storms interfere with Earth's technologies? Understand

Have you heard about the solar storms? They can also be referred to as storms geomagnetic. They occur when there is release of great energies from the Sun, in the form of solar flares and coronal mass ejections.

This is a relatively common phenomenon and happens every 25 years due to the super intense magnetic field of the Sun.

When radiation gets out of control, it misaligns billions of tons of solar material, reaching thousands of kilometers per second and scattering in many directions.

According to the journal Live Science, the greatest amount of energy from one type of sunlight is radiated as ultraviolet or x-rays. In this way, the energy can also heat the gas present in the Sun's atmosphere.

But would these phenomena be capable of causing damage to Earth? Keep reading to learn more about storms and their significant impacts.

How do solar storms impact planet Earth?

Today, solar storms can indeed damage Earth technologies. As an example, it is important to point out that satellites are very susceptible to failure due to this phenomenon.

A fact occurred in 1972: dozens of sea mines near the coast of Vietnam exploded, recently it was discovered that the fact was related to the movement of solar storms.

However, scientists have already proven that the Earth's magnetic field and our insulating atmosphere keep us safe.

Solar storms can also cause interference in communications, which can lead to loss of signal from long-distance radios and satellites, causing a drop in connections and distortions in data.

The radiation and its magnetic particles released with solar storms can affect the electronic systems of orbiting satellites, thus causing temporary or even permanent failures.

Impacts on the electrical grid are also possible to observe with the failure of electricity conduction to transmit energy. In extreme cases, there can be major blackouts and electronic burnouts.

Risks also permeate astronauts and aircraft. During a solar storm, exposure to solar radiation it is harmful to astronauts who are in orbit, as they fly at high altitudes.

At Trezeme Digital, we understand the importance of effective communication. We know every word matters, so we strive to deliver content that is relevant, engaging, and personalized to meet your needs.
