Oregon State University, in the United States, conducted a survey that proved that cats do have feelings towards their tutors. What's more, they are emotions comparable to those a child feels about his parents.
In the experiment, cats and their owners were placed in a room they had never been in before. The humans would explore the place with the animals for a few minutes and then leave.
When the tutors left the scene, the cats showed clear signs of anxiety and meowed a lot. 64.3% of the cats calmed down when the humans returned and continued to explore the area.
The 35.7% of cats remained anxious even after the return of their tutors – and were clinging to them. This shows that cats have a relationship of trust with the human and who miss him.
Despite the assertiveness of the study, more studies are still needed so that scientists have more specific data.
Feline behavior expert John Brashaw of the University of Bristol said that cats play with us as if we were cats too. This attitude is different from that of dogs, who understand that we are different.
The conclusion came from the observation that the cat socializes with humans by leaving their tails high, erect and often curling around our legs. It's just what they do with others cats.
This may be due to the fact that kittens are not yet fully domesticated like dogs. There's still some time to go.
