The Niterói Municipal Market reopened its doors this Thursday (27) after almost 40 years. The historic building underwent revitalization works that preserved the original characteristics, with adaptation and adaptation of the space to transform it into a gastronomy hub, the result of a partnership between the city hall and the government of state.

The 9,700 square meter area now houses 172 gastronomy, decoration, brewery, delicatessen, fishmonger, crafts, cheese shops, among other services.

The revitalization included urban and landscaping interventions around the market and involved restructuring local road network, the creation of a new tourist and entertainment hub, generation of jobs and income for the County.

According to the executive secretary of the city of Niterói, Rodrigo Neves, the site, which was a public deposit of the state, was closed for almost 40 years and now brings back to life the space that was a large commercial warehouse in past.

The inauguration was also attended by the mayor of Niterói, Axel Grael, and the director of Novo Mercado Municipal, Allan Carvalho.

According to Mayor Axel Grael, the investment to reopen the market was R$69 million, of which R$30 million was spent on renovating the building. The forecast is that the site could generate more than 2 thousand direct and indirect jobs.
