From afar, the red flowers in bright tones stand out, but the beauty of the flamboyant is not restricted to the colors. The size and shape of this tree also attract attention. On average, it reaches 10 meters in length and the crown is impressive for being like a robust umbrella.
Despite being easily found in Brazil, flamboyant is not native to our country. It originates from the African island of Madagascar and was brought to our territory in the 19th century. An interesting fact is that it is considered the symbolic tree of Puerto Rico, even though it is not native to the place.
One of the reasons this species is considered common, for example, in the southeast region, is that it has adapted very well to the tropical climate. Large in size, it can grow in different types of soil and, to grow luxuriantly, it needs plenty of sun.
Red flowers are the most popular and well-known, but they can have lighter colors and other shades. The species name is French and means “flaming”, due to its intense color. It has brown fruits, similar in shape to pod fruits, which can exceed 40 cm.
Due to its beauty, the flamboyant is considered one of the most beautiful trees in the world, no wonder it is widely used in landscaping. But before planting this tree, you need to pay attention to the size of the space. It needs large areas, as the branches lengthen and the roots follow the same flow. Therefore, it is not recommended to plant this species on narrow sidewalks and small areas.
