It is a tribute to the clown Piolin, one of the most famous in Brazil, who ran Circo Piolin for more than 30 years. Abelardo Pinto, known as Piolin, was born in Ribeirão Preto (SP), on March 27, 1897, into a traditional circus family. At his father's American Circus, he learned to do acrobatics and contortionism and to play the violin and mandolin. The name of the work ______ suggestion from Spanish artists who performed alongside him during a benefit show. As he was thin and had long legs, he earned the nickname Piolin (string). At the Modern Art Week in 1922, intellectuals hailed Piolin as an example of a typically Brazilian popular artist. He passed away in São Paulo, on September 4, 1973.
