The case took place at Colégio Salvatoriano Imaculada Conceição, where a teacher taught classes for 6th and 7th year classes and addressed the use of neutral pronouns.
The video of the class, later shared by deputy Jessé Lopes (PL-SC), brought to light the debate about neutral language, with the parliamentarian labeling it as an “imposition of the LGBTQIA+ movement”.
In the video that generated the controversy, the teacher sought to contextualize the use of neutral language for her students, explaining that some people in the LGBTQIAPN+ community do not feel represented by the term "all".
In class, the teacher explained the reasons why the community tries to establish neutral language, in an attempt to promote the inclusion of these people.
The Catholic school chose not to reveal the teacher's identity or the reasons behind her dismissal, when questioned by the newspaper O Globo.
The news of the dismissal was also shared with the students' families, demonstrating the relevance and repercussion of this debate in the educational sphere and in society in general.
