Last Monday (25), the Federal Government announced that, from now on, computer and telecommunications goods will no longer be charged Import Tax. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) and will come into force from next Monday (2).
Among the products that will no longer have taxes are: printed circuit boards, upstream Ethernet interface modules, data processing units and other items.

The idea, therefore, is to promote greater technological development in the country, ensuring greater access to information and communication technologies.
The measure allows IT and telecommunications companies to offer better prices to consumers, spreading their relevance throughout the national territory.
The change is based on Decree No. 11,428, of March 2, 2023, which aims to disseminate the access to information and communication technologies in the country, through state-of-the-art equipment generation.
Among the products that will be exempt from the tax rate, we can highlight:
Front paper guides;
Intermediate ink reservoirs;
Printed circuit boards;
Data processing units;
Devices for measuring signals;
Equipment for high voltage signal transmission;
Barcode reader;
Functional electrical testers;
Electronic tilt sensors;
“Starwheel” toothed caster supports for paper alignment.

In addition to this change, the government is still studying the possibility of applying a new internet usage fee. The charge would be similar to that for public lighting that already occurs today, for example.
With the amounts raised, there would be financing for a cybersecurity in Brazilian territory.
According to Marco Antônio Amaro dos Santos, minister of the Institutional Security Office, this is a policy that has been under study for some time and could be submitted for a vote in Congress in 2023.
