The state of São Paulo is employing new cars capable of identifying traffic violations Traffic. The vehicles are from the Traffic Engineering Company (CET) and have cameras installed on the roof. Its purpose is just one: to check the 54,000 rotating parking spaces (Blue Zone) in the capital.
The idea is that they will be able to recognize the license plate of cars and motorcycles, with Optical Character Recognition technology, in free translation: optical character recognition (OCR).

With the camera positioned on the roof of the car and a GPS installed in it, agents can transmit images of illegally parked vehicles to the CET center.
With the image of the infraction and the address of the location, professionals go to the car to carry out the assessment in person.
To date, around 80 vehicles traveling throughout the city of São Paulo have not yet applied fines using this method.

Even if they do not perform this function, this is CET's idea with the new technology. However, to put it into practice, inspection regulations are required by the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran).
Even though the new regulation has already been submitted, it is not in force. Therefore, agents are having to position themselves in the field to apply fines.
According to the text, fines may be applied using fixed cameras, as long as the vehicle's license plate is in good quality and shows where the vehicle is. Date, time and address must appear on the image for the infraction to be valid.
With this, the new CET cars will be great allies for carrying out inspections of vehicles in Blue Zone areas.
