In addition to these pillars, the neuroscientists introduced us to the intriguing concept of neuroplasticity. This means that our brain is malleable and can be shaped throughout our lives, making us lifelong learners.

Activating this brain plasticity can be accomplished in several ways. Over the years, scientists have discovered that memorization and repetition are important, but not sufficient.

And that's why we highlight four learning techniques that can boost success in studies. Follow the text to get to know them.

“Learn to learn” using these methods

1. Musical mnemonics

If you like music, you can use it to your advantage. Our brain has a remarkable ability to retain engaging melodies.

Try linking the information you want to memorize to a popular song you like, like linking the elements of the periodic table to a familiar melody.

2. Mnemonic abbreviations and acronyms

Abbreviations and acronyms are effective tools for improving memorization.

Create new words or phrases using the initials of the information you want to remember, such as the acronym “My grandmother has a lot of jewelry, she only wears it around her neck” to remember the planets in our solar system.

3. Loci Method

Also known as the “Memory Palace”, the method involves mapping a familiar location and associating mental images with the information you want to remember.

Choose a place you know well and relate specific points to information, such as linking the purchase of toothpaste to the image of a waterfall of toothpaste flowing through the kitchen cabinet.

4. Preview

The ability to think visually is powerful for learning and memorizing. Transform ideas into visual images. The more vivid the image, the more effective it will be at retaining information.

Finally, such techniques represent just a glimpse of the possibilities that neuroplasticity and learning provide.

Learning to learn is valuable, and these methods can open doors to lasting knowledge and academic success.

So, stay curious, try such approaches and discover how they can transform your educational journey.
